Cooling System Service / Repairs
Today's vehicles are equipped with complex cooling systems so at De Jonge Mechanical Repairs, we pressure test the radiator, check that the radiator cap has proper sealing, inspect hoses for leaks, check coolant level, check water pump for leaks / wear and all drive belts for their tension and condition.
As a result of the rising fuel costs and harder economic times, manufactures' are designing smaller engines that can deliver more power and better performance. With these new designs of vehicles comes the alloy cylinder head, and with this comes electrolysis.
Electrolysis is the stray electrical current produced when the engine is operating. This stray current produces a devastating corrosive effect on alloys such as the alloy cylinder head, water pump, radiator and many water fittings that are vital components of your vehicle's cooling system.
To keep your vehicle in peak running condition, the cooling system is certainly about maintaining the correct operating temperature and reducing corrosion. It also involves controlling these stray currents (the unknown / unseen danger to modern cooling systems).
